Marx's Allstate Set #9619

Description

Made by Marx for Sears and sold under the "Allstate" brand, the centerpiece of the #9619 set is the Marx #1666 Steam Locomotive, configured with a 2-4-2 wheel arrangement and its famous "Side Smoker." Instead of only puffing smoke from the top stack, it shoots smoke out of two ports located on either side of the lower steam chest, simulating realistic piston exhaust.

Not to be topped by the locomotive or the train platform/track, 3 out of the 5 cars feature various Easter eggs, including:

• Operating Rocket Launching/Minuteman Car: A staple of the 1960s Cold War/Space Race aesthetic. 
• An operating spotlight car with a manually positioned searchlight.
• A cattle car with an automatically opening door from which a steer emerges.

Known issues:

• Some of the engine's railing was repaired with a hot glue gun, robbing it of its realism. The glue has been meticulously peeled away and has been resecured with CA glue.
• The locomotive's rear wheels are missing.
• One of the coupling rods came loose but has been repaired.
• The base of the rocket & launcher both have small pieces of plastic broken off, but otherwise it works fine.
• Only three straight pieces of the original track are included (see picture of the train platform for an example).
• During testing, it was determined that the engine works only intermittently, and rather than incurring additional repairs, we have included a SECOND #1666 locomotive. The second unit works beautifully, but it has been pinstriped white, has had its numbers painted white, and isn't a side smoker. It is our recommendation that the pinstriped locomotive be used to repair the original locomotive. We will initiate the repairs for an additional $50.
