Pixel Art Lamp Instructions

Setting Up

When you first receive your lamp, it will arrive assembled in three main pieces: the base, the panels, and the power supply. The base and panels press-fit together and are held together with tape during shipping; remove the tape before setting the lamp on a firm surface such as a bookshelf or table. By design, the base and panels are not fixed together so that the entire unit can be serviced if necessary or upgraded if desired. You can superglue them together if you want. At this point, you can plug the lamp in.

Connecting To Wifi

Using your phone's browser or a computer, connect to the WiFi network "Pixel Art Lamp". When prompted, navigate to http://4.3.2.1 (notice it's not https). While you are logged into the app, you can control the Pixel Art Lamp, but we recommend connecting it to your Wifi network.

From the WLED app, select "Config" and then "WiFi & Network". Either Scan for your network or manually enter your network's SSID. Enter your WiFi password and then click "Save & Connect". If everything is correct, your lamp should now be connected to your network. If you have multiple lamps, you may want to consider updating the "DNS & mDNS" and "Configure Access Point" sections to use a unique address and/or SSID.

Connecting To The WLED App

There are four basic methods for connecting to the WLED App. In all cases, make sure you are connected to the same network as the lamp (either its private network or the network you configured the lamp to connect to in the previous step).

  1. Connect using your computer's web browser. In your browser, go to http://PixelArtLamp.local (notice that it's not https).
  2. Connect using your phone's web browser. In your browser, go to http://PixelArtLamp.local (notice that it's not https).
  3. Install the iOS App
  4. Install the Android App

In the case of the iOS or Android app, the lamps should be discovered automatically. If not, hit the plus sign and enter the lamp's web address, PixelArtLamp.local. In all cases, the app is pretty much the same, except that on a PC, the UI uses a wider layout.

Using WLED

The WLED app is well documented at https://kno.wled.ge. The instructions on using the UI will be of most interest to most people:

Your lamp will come with a number of pixel art pieces pre-loaded and configured under the list of presets. Simply selecting a preset will update the lamp to use the corresponding piece of pixel art. Additionally, a playlist titled "Auto Cycle" has been configured and will loop through each of the presets at 60-second intervals. Because of copyright laws, the advertised Nintendo, Pac-Man, Among Us, Sonic, Minecraft, and other examples are not automatically included. However, you can upload any art to your device.

Upload Your Pixel Art

  1. Scroll through the list of effects and select the effect "Image".
  2. Under the color wheel, click the "PixelForge" icon.
  3. Click any image under "Images on Device" to load it onto your lamp.
  4. Click "Upload New Image" to upload an image from your device.
  5. Under "Crop & Adjust Image":
    1. Change the output size; we use a standard of 80x16 pixels. For the square lamp, the first 16x16 block is the box lid, and for the round lamp, the first 16x16 block is ignored. This allows us to share images between the two devices.
    2. Select "Match Size (1:1)".
    3. Adjust the dashed box to highlight your art. Verify the alignment in the image preview below.
    4. Click "Convert & Upload to WLED"
    5. Select your newly uploaded art to preview it on the lamp

Add A Preset For Your Art

We suggest that you start by loading one of the existing presets - this puts the device into the correct configuration for most of the parameters.

  1. Select an existing preset for one of the existing pieces of art.
  2. Make any changes you like, including uploading and/or selecting a new piece of art (see the previous step).
  3. Once the device is in the desired state, under "Presets" select the "+ Preset" option.
  4. Make sure that the "Use current state" box is checked.
  5. Click on "Save".
  6. Optionally, edit the "Auto Cycle" playlist to include your new art.
